The open forum is currently LOCKED to guests, to new members, and to standard members who registered before 30 April 2017. You’re welcome to read as much as you like, but we’re not allowing new posts or accepting new members except for our students.
If you’re a GET STARTED student, CLIENT HUNTING student or MENTORING student, you should be able to read *and* write posts in the open forum when you’re logged in. Client Hunting students should also have access to a private Client Hunters forum – scroll down below the open forum on this page. If you’re a student and you don’t have access to the things I just described (or you don’t have a forum login yet), email firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll set that up for you.

I am new to the writing community I have been working as a Legal Assistant for the past ten years and have been recently laid off. I just turned 61 and I don’t particularly want to re-enter the job market again and start over. I have always had an interest in writing even in the 2nd grade I loved to write Mystery stories. Back in the early 2000s I blogged for about 3 years and quite enjoyed it, it was a personal opinion blog. So now I am hoping to enter the Freelance Writing career. I am a bit stumped on a few things such as where to start I keep hearing about the necessity of a niche but can’t seem to pinpoint one. I am taking a couple of courses but since I started on this path I haven’t written anything. Mostly because I think I am overwhelmed by it all and can’t quite figure out where to start or what to write about. I have also started a Writer’s website with blog but again I cannot decide how to finish it. I find it hard to advertise it when I have nothing as yet to put on and I am not sure how to bill myself with no experience to speak of. Thanks for listening, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I use Google a lot to find information on things I want to learn more about.
For instance, you could Google “How to find a blogging niche?” “What makes a good blogging niche?”
Stay narrow with the niche.
Try to pick something you have a passion for. Blogging can get old really fast if
you aren’t in love with what you want to write about.
There are tons of excellent posts right here on BAFB, so it’s great place to start.
All the Best.
