Why You Should STOP Trying to Make Money Online [And What to Do Instead]

Why You Should STOP Trying to Make Money Online [And What to Do Instead]

You’ve heard the news: YOU CAN MAKE MONEY BLOGGING.

You can make a living as a freelance writer. Content is king, and the demand will only increase.

Really? You say.

I can blog. I can write all day. I’m a great writer. People will flock to my writing from far and wide.

But coming up to the gate, you might realize you have some lingering doubts about this whole idea.

For example… how will you sell it? By the inch? By the yard? Do people just want “content” to patch in to their websites to satisfy Google that day? Is writing like sewing, one line after another? What will you write about, for heaven’s sake? How will you know this is “good” writing? When will you know that it’s worth a living wage?

The doubts are daunting. And haunting.

But what if you stopped trying to make money blogging?

What if you stopped worrying about making a living as a freelance writer?

What if you solved problems for a living instead?

What if you declared this:

I am in service to the livelihoods of others, providing the one thing they can not survive without online. I solve their problems by confronting their customers’ problems in an engaging way. I am a hero; and my clients are heroes to their clients; and we all change lives every day.

The attitude shift from profit to service can change your life — and it can change other people’s lives. It’s also a lot more fun. That, in a nutshell, is the Prosperity Model.

How to Turn Every Rejection Into a New Opportunity

How to Turn Every Rejection Into a New Opportunity

You did it! Congratulations!

You’ve finished an amazing new blog pitch or proposal. You cross your “T’s” and dot your “I’s.” Everything is ready. You click Send, and sit back waiting for the accolades to come showering down.

[Ding!] There’s your email alert — “Dear Sir or Madam, We regret to inform you…”

BOOTY-PANTS! (That’s cursing to my toddler.)

Rejection is an unfortunate part of life. Whether we’re talking about blogging, business, or Lisa who rejected me our senior year of high school, everyone faces rejection.

What to do next?

A) Down a gallon of root beer, dress in your “lounging pants,” and listen to Adele, or

B) Accept the challenge, clean your wounds, and start the next project?

I’m all for option B. You should be too.

All around us are stories of successful people who were rejected time and again until they found their big break.

Here are 3 techniques you can use to turn rejection into motivation:

5 Ways to Show Clients You’re a Rare Blogging Butterfly

5 Ways to Show Clients You’re a Rare Blogging Butterfly

There’s nothing quite like knowing you’re one-of-a-kind to your freelance blogging clients.

The phrase, “You’re our go-to gal/guy” will send a giddy shiver throughout your body each time you hear it.

But many freelance bloggers won’t hear that even once in their career. High-quality bloggers are a rare species, much like the Karner Blue butterfly I recently befriended.

When I first saw the butterfly, I simply admired it as I watched it flutter in the wind. Even as it landed on me, I didn’t understand the true nature of its beauty.

Then I realized what I was holding. It was a Karner Blue butterfly, an endangered species.

Upon learning this, the encounter shifted from being simply neat to being incredibly significant. I didn’t want to let the little guy fly away.

That’s the kind of experience you want your blogging clients to have. You want them to realize that you’re a rarity — that bloggers like you are hard to find. At that point, they won’t want to let you go.

Check out these ways you can show your true colors and put yourself on your clients’ endangered species list.

Deception Revealed: 6 Bullshit Blogging Myths Created by Famous Bloggers

Deception Revealed: 6 Bullshit Blogging Myths Created by Famous Bloggers

Don’t you sometimes wish someone would just tell you the exact steps to building a successful freelance blogging business? That are guaranteed to work? A fool-proof plan?

Because then YOU could be an A-List blogger.

The one that has it all.

Clients who pay the big bucks. Thousands of Twitter followers and Facebook likes. Hundreds of comments to every post they publish and they don’t even need to comment themselves to bump up the numbers.

When will you ever get there?

You devour their business advice like your life depends on it. If I just do what this guy’s doing, I’ll hit the big time.

What they don’t tell you, in the detail that you’d like, is the time and experimenting it took to get there.

And it’s all about experimenting.

Which is why you shouldn’t listen to all the famous bloggers’ advice.

And instead? Create your own formula for success.

So what are the A-Listers telling you to do that you simply shouldn’t?

A whole bunch o’ stuff, apparently:

Be the Boss of Your Ideas: A Pitching System for Freelance Bloggers with Wandering Minds

Be the Boss of Your Ideas: A Pitching System for Freelance Bloggers with Wandering Minds

If you’re like me, you have a GAZILLION ideas.

Having lots of ideas is a good thing. To be a successful freelance writer, however, it helps to have a system for pitching ideas. Otherwise, it’s hard to focus, and you can get stuck in the what-do-I-do-next phase where you spend a lot more time thinking than doing.

When I decided to pursue full-time freelance writing, I was really excited. I had a bunch of ideas written down. I knew about lots of blogs and magazines that paid, and I was confident in my pitching and writing abilities.

But although I knew how to do the main activities necessary for success, I wasn’t sure how to do them consistently in a way that would lead to regular assignments and income.

I was stuck.

I needed a bridge from what I knew to the practicalities of writing assignments and CASH. And I needed a way to focus and avoid switching from idea to idea.

So that’s when I developed this system for pitching, a system that provides concrete tasks and a plan of action for ideas.
