Writing a blog post doesn’t take only 5 minutes. And juggling between college classes, homework and blogging assignments makes you feel like there’s no end to your day.

I know it’s hard. Believe me, been there, done that (still doing that!).

The internet offers plenty of advice for students on how to approach a prospect and all that stuff. It’s not too difficult once you get started.

But none of that freelance advice will work if you can’t balance your blogging life and your student life. So, here’s how to do that.

You did it! Congratulations!

You’ve finished an amazing new blog pitch or proposal. You cross your “T’s” and dot your “I’s.” Everything is ready. You click Send, and sit back waiting for the accolades to come showering down.

[Ding!] There’s your email alert — “Dear Sir or Madam, We regret to inform you…”

BOOTY-PANTS! (That’s cursing to my toddler.)

Rejection is an unfortunate part of life. Whether we’re talking about blogging, business, or Lisa who rejected me our senior year of high school, everyone faces rejection.

What to do next?

A) Down a gallon of root beer, dress in your “lounging pants,” and listen to Adele, or

B) Accept the challenge, clean your wounds, and start the next project?

I’m all for option B. You should be too.

Don’t you sometimes wish someone would just tell you the exact steps to building a successful freelance blogging business? That are guaranteed to work? A fool-proof plan?

Imagine the scene.

You’re sitting quietly in front of your computer. The page is blank and beneath the table your legs shake with increasing tension. In a space of thirty minutes you’ve written and deleted just one measly sentence.

And then everything changes.

You find yourself running with the shriek of sirens sounding in your ears.

The rockets are coming. 

Before you reach the shelter, the first rocket explodes nearby, causing the ground to shudder.

Boom! Boom! … BOOM!  

Are you afraid?

Living under deadly uncertainty

A few years ago, I experienced exactly this scenario.

I lived in a city in southern Israel which, when I was there, was attacked more than 100 times with deadly rocket barrages.

I never knew from one day to the next whether a rocket would come slamming through our roof. When a warning siren went, we had less than a minute to get to a protective shelter.

People died. Children cried. There was nowhere really to hide.

Those days taught me a lot about developing a freelance writing and blogging career in the face of fear and anxiety.
