9 Places to Find Blogging Job Ads That Don’t Suck

9 Places to Find Blogging Job Ads That Don’t Suck

The happy rush you feel upon deciding to be a freelance blogger can quickly be consumed by the difficulty of finding decent work.

$5 per post is not what you had in mind. You’re keen to find gigs that pay fair, but where do you start looking?

One of the biggest elements that sets freelance blogging apart from “normal” jobs is that you’ve got to actually go out there and find your own projects. You can’t just decide to be a writer one day and then sit back and watch assignments roll in — but oh, do we ever wish it were really like that!

Fortunately, there are a few great places online that post genuine ads for blogging gigs that pay more than just “exposure”. These are my go-to websites to find blogging job ads that don’t suck:

How to Convince Businesses That They Need a Blog

How to Convince Businesses That They Need a Blog

Some businesses don’t have blogs.

Not just business that run out of caves on Mars, either. [Though Sophie says she would totally read their blogs if they existed.]

Real businesses. With running water, and clients, and big juicy marketing budgets. But no blog.

As a professional blogger, you might be tempted to write these stone-age businesses off. After all, they don’t need your services, right?

Of course they do!

Some of the best blogging clients out there are the ones whose blog doesn’t exist yet. It’s true you have a little more work to do up front with this approach — you have to convince the client they want and need a blog. But that’s easy when you have the right tools (more about this in a moment). And the advantages are undeniable.

Pitchfest: A $100 Blogging Prize [And Some Grammar Tips]

Grammar.

How’s yours?

It’s a tricky thing to judge. You might think your grammar’s perfect, when really you’re making some howling mistakes. Then again, you might fret that your grammar isn’t good enough when it’s absolutely fine.

So I just want to say two things about grammar, and then we’ll get on to the $100 blogging opportunity. 🙂

How to Use Facebook Groups to Land More Blogging Jobs

How to Use Facebook Groups to Land More Blogging Jobs

You hear the marketing gurus talking about this all the time.

“Use Facebook to promote your business.” That’s most likely why you started a Facebook page promoting your writing services. And if you invited everyone you know to ‘like’ the page, you probably have a few hundred likes already.

But…you’re not getting any writing inquiries.

There’s little engagement on your page. The occasional likes and comments might bring a smile to your face, but bring in zero clients.

You start to wonder if Facebook is even worth your time.

It’s true: you can use Facebook to get decent or even lucrative blogging gigs. But don’t spend all your marketing efforts on growing your Facebook Page.

Facebook Groups are where all the action is.

Pitchfest: Win $100 for Your Next Guest Post

We’re getting close now. Only a week to go.

I don’t know what you celebrate at this time of year, but for me it’s the winter solstice. One long, cold, dark night that turns the whole year around.

Call me crazy, but I believe we all have to go through solstices in our freelance writing careers. There are peaks of giddy genius and troughs of utter despair along the way, and they’re supposed to be there.

Because without them, we can’t learn and grow. Without good days, we won’t recognise bad days. Without challenge, there’s no achievement.

I may not believe in much, but I sure as hell believe in that.

Dear gods, did I just start giving a semi-religious lecture on my blog? [And, hey, was it working? Do you feel inspired?]

OK, moving on: I’ve got a challenge for you if you’re willing to accept it.

Time for the last Pitchfest of 2014!

You pitch a blog post idea and we’ll choose our favourite ones to publish, with a $100 prize for the best pitch. I’ll explain the rules in a minute, but first…
