How to Make Money as a Parenting Blogger

How to Make Money as a Parenting Blogger

If you’ve got kids and you like writing, chances are you blog about parenting.

Maybe you don’t even mind when people call you a “mommy (or daddy) blogger”. After all, you’re a parent. You’re a blogger. And your family inspires your writing.

Maybe you started blogging as a kind of baby book, a way to remember all the cute things your kids did. Maybe it was just a way for you vent about your experiences as a parent. But at some point, you realized that what you’re doing is different from what most “mom bloggers” do.

Not to be rude about it, but you’re damn good at this.

The truth is—and I don’t want to sound mean, but it’s a fact—a lot of parenting bloggers aren’t that great at writing. And many of them don’t even want to be. Some of them struggle with basics like grammar and word connotation. Others are good writers but don’t really understand blogging style, so their blogs rarely gain traction. Only a handful write at a professional standard.

Luckily, you’re one of them.

The Elementary Marketing Tactic You Don’t Know You’re Missing

The Elementary Marketing Tactic You Don’t Know You’re Missing

Trying to make a name for yourself?

Yep, most of us are. That’s why we roam the Internet, visiting blog after blog, signing up to mailing lists, for webinars, tutorials, and otherwise investing in our freelancing careers.

We ask ourselves questions like: How can I reach a wider audience? How can I prove that I’m the expert my client needs? How can I become a recognizable face in my field?

One word: consistency.

Consistency in quality, content and image can get you more results with your marketing efforts than you think.

Speaking of becoming a recognizable face, let’s start with…

The Simple Secret to Beating Impostor Syndrome

The Simple Secret to Beating Impostor Syndrome

Now, I’m no doctor… But if you’re a fellow writer, I’m willing to bet you suffer a certain syndrome.

Let’s start with a few questions:

  • When a client accepts your terms and rates for a project, do you think, “I can’t believe they fell for it!”?
  • Do you attribute most, if not all, of your blogging success to luck?
  • Do you constantly fear being exposed as a fraud—even though you have the expertise to back up your claims?
  • No matter how accomplished you become, do you feel you still need to “pay your dues” or that you don’t deserve the recognition (or pay!) you receive?

Uh-huh. Yep.

Looks like you have Impostor Syndrome.

“I Have What?”

Don’t worry. Impostor Syndrome isn’t fatal.

Well… Not in the physical sense anyway. It could be fatal to your career.

The Quick Start Guide to Starting Your Own Editing Side Hustle

The Quick Start Guide to Starting Your Own Editing Side Hustle

Hello freelance bloggers!

I know that you’re serious about being successful as a freelance blogger; you’re here, after all.

Now, I don’t want to distract you from this important work—but let’s be honest:

You know you can be a freelance blogger. Sophie knows you can be a freelance blogger. And I have no doubt in my mind that you can be a freelance blogger. But the fact remains that it isn’t always easy to make a decent income right from the get-go. Clients are sometimes few and far between, and even with the best pricing strategy, you won’t always be making as much as you want to.

Your bills, of course, remain largely the same. Groceries need to be bought, the mortgage paid, and the internet kept connected.

So sometimes you need a little extra.

Acquiring that little bit extra, and seeing it put to good use, is a passion of mine, and I think it can be done in a way that complements, rather than replaces or takes away from your freelance blogging work.

The Freelance Blogger’s Client Hunting Masterclass

The Freelance Blogger’s Client Hunting Masterclass

How to Hunt Out High-Paying Clients and
Attract a Stream of Freelance Blogging Gigs

You’ve got a laptop, a way with words and a drive to succeed. But that doesn’t seem to be enough. Instead of making it big in the freelance writing world you’re making it, um, small-to-medium.

It’s frustrating. You’ve seen freelance bloggers living your dream life — no day job, no debts, getting paid $200, $500, $1000 and more for every post they write.

How to hunt out high-paying clients for your freelance blogging business

The ads you find online don’t offer that kind of pay. What are you missing?

The answer: client hunting skills.

Already convinced? Skip straight to your options.

Hunting for clients is an essential skill for any freelancer. It’s easy once you know how. But if you don’t know how, you’re screwed:

Hunting for freelance blogging clients - it doesn't have to be this hard!
  • You waste time looking in all the wrong places (weeks later you’ve got bills to pay and still no gigs lined up)
  • You send email after email but you don’t know if anybody reads them
  • You chicken out in negotiations and wind up working for less than you’re worth
  • You’re exhausted because you never have time to relax
  • You wonder WTF you have to do to make a real, reliable income as a freelance blogger

…unless you find out from somewhere, from someone who’s figured it out. Someone like me.

Yes, hello! I’m Sophie Lizard, the founder of Be a Freelance Blogger. And I’ve been where you are.

I had no money, no business skills and no clue what I was doing when I started freelance blogging.

But once I learned how to land high-paying clients, it only took a few months to build a steady full-time income from part-time work. For the past 6 years my freelance blogging career has supported my whole family.

Sophie Lizard, founder of Be a Freelance Blogger

I’ve worked with some of the most respected experts in the blogging industry — Chris Brogan at Owner Media, Danny Iny at Mirasee — as well as big-budget global brands and exciting startups.

Now I’m inviting *you* to learn EXACTLY how to win the high-paying gigs that will cover your bills and pay for your next vacation.

The Freelance Blogger’s Client Hunting Masterclass is designed to get you better clients and more money.

In this training program you’ll learn where to look for clients, what to do when you find them, and how to attract *them* to come and find *you*.

Thanks for putting on this class. It broke the steps down to an easy-to-follow sequence while at the same time building my confidence that I could do this and ask for the price I deserve. The lesson on finding hidden gigs was especially helpful, since I can pick the clients I want to work with and who will pay me my fees ($210 a post).

—Chris Peden, freelance writer at TheAccountingScribe.com

I’ve brought in some of my professional blogger friends to share their specialist knowledge with us, too, so you’ll get bonus tips and resources from our guest experts along with my advice.

You’ll have access to exclusive video tutorials, downloadable resources, a private support forum, real-life examples from my freelance blogging business, and next-step tactics for success.

But this training isn’t for everyone.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS COURSE IF…
  • You’ve never written a blog post, article or other non-fiction. This course is about finding clients for the blogging and writing skills you already have. If you need to learn to blog, please do that first. [Ask me if you need help.]
  • You can’t commit to spending at least a couple of hours per week on your training. If there’s a week or two when you can’t fit it in, that’s cool and you can catch up later — but you will need to put some time into this to see results.
  • You’re broke. Yes, this is an investment in your future, but if you’re struggling to cover your living costs then now is not the right time.
THIS TRAINING IS FOR YOU IF…
  • You love blogging and devour “how to blog better” tips like an addict
  • You’re committed to finding more and higher-paying clients
  • You’re ready to try new ideas and see what happens

I’ve been blogging for a while but something just wasn’t clicking before for how to put all of this work/time/effort together to actually produce a real living wage. During about the 3rd lesson I started having some major “A-HA!” moments and by the time I’d finished I felt like (for the first time in a long time) I wasn’t going to have to rely on content mills just to make a couple bucks as a writer.

I felt empowered to take my new-found knowledge in my industry and pitch new clients. It didn’t take long before one of my pitches got noticed… I was put on retainer for 5 posts a month at a 28% increase over what I was making, for a post of the same quality and length.

You are terrific! After taking your course and practicing what I learned, I have three full time clients… writing for a travel company, world wide destinations. Average monthly salary: $3,000!
